4 Games you need to play before the end of 2019

It is almost impossible to get through all the games launched in a year. It is definitely impossible to curate a top ten list to determine the best of the best. So, of course, here’s a list of 4 games you should probably play before the end of 2019.

There is no scientific reasoning to justify these picks, nor can we confidently say that these are truly the best games of the year. But here are four games that anyone will enjoy and should be played before the end of the year.

Apex Legends

Apex Legends is a free game for your Xbox One, Playstation 4 or PC. It’s a battle royale game, much like Fortnite and PUBG, only it way more fun and dropped earlier this year. Apex Legends melds together classic shooters mixed with fun powers. You play in a team of 3 and are dropped into the arena where you play against other teams.

To win you need to be the last team standing. So expect to run around picking up guns and loot while utilising each of the champion’s special powers which include running super fast, being able to put up protective domes and offer healing to teammates. Within the first month, the game had more than 50 million players. In July 2019 publisher Electronic Arts confirmed that between 8 to 10 million players jump online each week. Games last anywhere from 5 minutes (sorry noobs) to around 20 minutes so it’s a fun quick way to jam with your friends.

Borderlands 3

Set to release mid-September, Borderlands 3 combines action role-playing with first-person shooting. You complete various missions, collecting loot as you go, while also shooting things. The game allows you to play alone or co-op with friends to complete missions and level up.

Borderlands distinguishes itself from other video games with its quirky writing and incredible art style. It’s also a great introduction to new shooter fans - allowing you to progress at your own pace and build a skill tree suited to your play style. It’s fun, it’s quirky and you’ll giggle more at the fun dialogue and beautiful imagery, rather than feeling anxious in a super-realism style world. The game also offers up endless opportunities to ensure you keep jamming well into 2020. Available on PC, Xbox and Playstation.

Pokemon Sword and Sheild

The latest Pokemon offering drops for Nintendo Switch in November and is a must-play game for anyone who loves the cute and fluffy. It’s a role-playing game where you play as a Pokemon trainer, collecting and training a bunch of Pokemon with special abilities to battle other Pokemon.

You can choose to explore and collect or battle. The game will also drop with a host of new Pokemon. It’s fun, it’s simple and it allows you to join a cult following of fans around the world who love these little creatures and the games around them.

Tetris 99

Everyone knows Tetris. But now imagine a battle arena where everyone is playing Tetris and levelling up in the game allows you to take out competitors. You’re all playing at the same time and need to be the final player in the game.

It’s free for your Nintendo Switch and it’s odd but it is also one of the funniest games to drop in 2019. Will you be the Tetris King or Queen in the battle arena? Load it up and try. Imagine all the frustration of Tetris combined with real people adding to it. It makes for a good giggle!
